Testing an M.2 in a Intel S2600CP Server Motherboard
For those that have been following, you have seen the previous video on my Dual Xeon Gaming system from an Intel S2600CP Server Motherboard. In the following years, I upgraded to an AMD 1700, and currently an Intel 11th Gen i9.
My daughter inherited the Dual Xeon Server computer in the DeepCool case. To help even out the computer for her the GPU was upgraded to a EVGA 1080 Ti, and the CPU’s were upgraded to dual 6 Core Intel Xeon E5-2643v2 running at 3.50ghz. A bit overkill for her Roblox sessions, but why not? It is still running the 64GB of ECC DDR ram.
While crusing along AliExpress, I ran across an M.2 to PCIe adapter card. I wanted to find out if this server motherboard would support running an M.2 SSD on a PCIE add in card. So, I purchased one and decided to experiment. Needless to say I was surprised. Not only did it work, but the speeds were impressive as well.
Next test will be to see if I can make this board bootable off the M.2 SSD instead of the SATA SSD.
Below the link is to an M.2 to PCIe adapter card on Amazon (associates link). The original one I purchased on AliExpress (literally 3 weeks ago) is no longer available. If you want to find another on AliExpress, you can easy find multiple by searching for “PCIe to M.2”. As always, AliExpress is “hit or miss”, so look a bit closely, and read reviews to look for any obvious fake reviews.
